Book Review: Sparkle by Cara Alwill Leyba

I had been following her feed on Instagram for awhile, but I had never taken the time to really check her out and see what she was all about. I just saw a lot of pink and a lot of glam, things I don’t usually gravitate towards. But her words were pulling me in. Cara Alwill Leyba, creator the The Champagne Diet Blog, Author, Speaker and Life Coach, has some pretty legit words she’s spitting. I got sucked into her podcast, Style Your Mind, which you can find on itunes, and just had to read one of her books. I started with Sparkle, The Girl’s Guide to Living a Deliciously Dazzling, Wildly Effervescent, Kick-Ass Life. This book really hit me where I am at in life and felt like I was sitting down with my best girls and having a heart to heart with a big glass of wine.

MIND

Cara’s first section is titled, Indulge YOUR MIND. This is the perfect place to start. If you don’t work on your inner most self and the way you think first, the rest of your journey to your best life will be extremely long and challenging. Cara shares her heart about finding what makes you, you. What makes you sparkle? Let your inner soul shine. Quit hiding behind society’s expectations and be yourself. Be present and quit comparing yourself to others. Life is too short to not celebrate everyday and we deserve to be proud and confident in who we are.

BODY

Fun fact, Cara is also a heath and wellness coach, and I love that she tied this section, Indulge YOUR BODY, into the book. It’s not your typical “you must be skinny, good looking and in shape to live your best life” sch-peel. Cara is very real about it. I love how her emphasis is not on getting skinny. That’s not the important part of loving your body and living a healthy lifestyle. Living a healthy lifestyle is about adding in more nutrition and getting physical. Doing good things for your body so your body will love you back. This is the exact mindset I am trying to adopt with my new health and wellness journey. People are so quick to ask if I am trying to lose weight. No, I’m not trying to lose weight. I just want to love my body more and do good things for it, living a healthy lifestyle. When you feel good, you look good. And when you feel good, you are ready to live your most glamorous life.

SOUL

Indulge YOUR SOUL. The third part of Sparkle. And in my opinion, the most important. Here is where Cara really breaks it down and gets 100% serious about living your best life. She talks about The Happiness Cocktail, everything in your life that adds to your happiness. We are responsible for our own happiness. We have the power to say enough is enough, be better and write our own happy ending. Each day we must wake up and put our minds and our souls in the right spot. Change our thinking from negative to positive. Embrace the power of fabulous thinking.

Cara gets it all. She has been through it. She worked her full-time job that she wasn’t in love with for 9 years while building her brand before quitting and becoming her own boss. She’s struggled with weight issues and shitty relationships. She’s the real deal. And it didn’t hit me how badly I needed this book until I was done with it. Its like as soon as I finished I felt this HUGE wave of energy flow through me. The super freaky thing, I started seeing a bunch of 3’s everywhere. Part of this is signifying the importance of balance between the three points of the trinity: mind, body, soul. Following Cara’s set up in this book. If you’re into numerology you know there is also a lot of other really cool things about seeing 3’s everywhere. I am so excited to see how the Universe works in my life after opening myself to sparkly and life my most Deliciously Dazzling, Wildly Effervescent, Kick-Ass Life.
