How do I find peace?

I think, at times, I have truly found peace in my life. It doesn’t always last forever as things come up that confuse my positive thoughts and leave me doubting if I am truly happy and on the right path. I don’t like feeling conflicted like that. There are times when things come up that don’t sit right with me. People do me wrong or the Universe throws a challenge my way that I can’t control and just have to deal with. Once I first realized I was finding true peace and happiness I didn’t want to let that feeling ever go. I always do my best to look at the bright side of things and remember that everything happens for a reason and is being used to make me a better, stronger human. I started thinking of all the things that bring me peace in life and wrote them down. For when I am feeling down and questioning things, I can return to these simple little reminders to bring me back to my true self.

  • Feel grateful and blessed. Number one. Always be thankful for what you have.
  • Take time for yourself. You can’t pour from an empty cup and you need to make sure you are filling yourself on a regular basis. It helps to keep you sane.
  • Know the impermanence of life, nothing lasts forever, good or bad.
  • Make meditation a part of life. Take time to let go of the bad shit and listen to the good the Universe is trying to tell you.
  • Be a student always, educate yourself on the beliefs and issues that interest you, never stop learning.
  • Read. Read as much as you can. I prefer self-help books and anything that is going to help me become a better version of myself, a good thriller with some suspension or a passionate love story with some juicy drama that I just can’t put down.
  • Learn to say no, don’t do anything you don’t want to do or won’t enjoy.
  • Take responsibility for your life and your happiness. You are the only one responsible for your actions and are the only one who gets to determine if you are happy or not.
  • Keep things organized and tidy. You don’t have to be a neat freak, but get a planner to keep track of things you don’t want to forget and make sure everything has a place. I’ve really been getting into minimalism and keeping as little stuff as possible, it’s done wonders for my life to throw unnecessary shit out.
  • Don’t worry about what other people think of you and the expectations they have of you. The only thing that matters is what you think of you and if you’re meeting the expectations you have set for yourself.
  • Find a passion and chase it. Don’t give up on it.
  • Always have a positive mindset. It’s hard to have a bad day when you are focused on the positives.
  • Let go of things that are not good for you and bring negativity into your life.
  • Trust that the Universe is in control and that things will work out how they should.
  • Find your spiritual balance, not saying you have to actively participate in a religion and go to church, but find something you believe in and can be in tune with.
  • Set standards and set goals, don’t settle for anything less. Know what you deserve and know your worth.
  • Know that some people are not meant to be in your life forever, some are only meant to spend a brief moment in your life for you to learn the lesson the Universe is trying to teach you, and then they move on.
  • Know that people will let you down, it’s not a reflection of you or anything you did wrong, it’s on them.
  • SMILE. A smile is the best accessory you can wear, it’s an easy way to brighten your day or maybe someone else’s day.
  • When it comes to relationships, remember it’s quality over quantity. It’s better to have a few close friends and loved ones who will stand by you no matter what than a multitude of flaky people in your life.
  • Don’t sweat the small stuff. Life is too precious and the overall big picture is too grand to let one small thing ruin your vibe.
